Sinus Lift
What Is a Sinus Lift?
/
A sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation, adds bone tissue to your upper jaw. The maxillary sinus is just above the molars in your upper jaw. To place dental implants in this area, it is often necessary to graft bone into place to give the implant posts enough tissue with which to become integrated. This procedure slightly lifts the soft tissues of the sinuses to create space for the bone graft.
Our Doctors Explain What a Sinus Augmentation is
Are You a Candidate?
Bone Loss From Missing Tooth
The primary qualification for a sinus lift is bone loss from a missing tooth. The doctor will examine your jawbone to see if your bone density requires a sinus lift before dental implant treatment.
Good Oral Health
Our periodontists will ensure that your mouth is free of decay and gum disease before moving forward with the sinus augmentation. If needed, we can recommend treatments to restore your oral health before your sinus lift.
Good Overall Health
For any surgical procedure, patients should be in good overall health to help ensure a successful outcome. Outstanding conditions, like diabetes, should be under control before undergoing a sinus lift.

Dr. Roger B. Parkes and Dr. R. Clarke Stewart perform sinus lift surgery at their Jackson, MS, periodontal practice to prepare patients for dental implant placement. Implants require strong bone density so they can integrate with the bone tissue and create a stable foundation for a restoration. However, tooth loss can lead to jawbone atrophy, disqualifying many patients from implant surgery. A sinus lift can restore your candidacy for dental implants.
Step-by-Step Process of a Sinus Lift
When a patient is receiving implants in the upper jaw, it is imperative to avoid disrupting the soft tissues of the sinuses.
