Ridge Augmentation
What Is Ridge Augmentation?
About the Procedure
Ridge augmentation is a bone graft treatment performed to restore bone tissue and support to the upper or lower alveolar ridge.
The alveolar ridge is the part of the jaw that contains tooth sockets. By rebuilding the alveolar ridge using bone grafts, your dentist can provide the necessary bone structure to support dental implants and preserve your facial appearance.
When Is It Necessary?
Ridge augmentation is necessary if a person needs to increase jawbone density to ensure proper implant placement.
After a patient experiences tooth loss, the bone of the alveolar ridge can begin to atrophy, leading to bone loss. Over time, this bone recession can become so severe that the patient will no longer have the necessary bone density to support a dental implant.

What Our Jackson Patients Say About Us
I had a great experience with Dr. Parkes, and his staff. They made me feel like family. They were comforting, kind, caring and patient. They took time explaining the procedure and answering any questions that I had and gave a very good goodie bag. After my procedure they escorted me to my person that was driving me home and explained what needed to be done. They went above and beyond. I greatly appreciate them and would recommend them to anyone needing implants, have gum disease or and periodontal work.

Before and After Ridge Augmentation
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ridge augmentation procedure hurt?
No, you will be completely numbed or placed under general anesthesia for the procedure so that you do not feel any pain. However, there may be some discomfort as the ridge heals and the bone fuses. Your doctors will work with you to help you manage your pain and keep your discomfort to a minimum. If you find that you cannot manage your pain while at home, contact our office so your doctor can address your pain as soon as possible.
How long after the grafting procedure do I have to wait for implants?
It is very important that your mouth be given time to heal before implants can be placed. This ensures a strong foundation for your implants and implant restorations. Healing times vary by patient, and the healing process takes six to nine months. With a strong foundation, your implants can last a lifetime. The ultimate goal is to not only replace your missing teeth but to stop and prevent further bone loss for optimal oral health.
Does insurance cover ridge augmentation?
Insurance coverage varies by plan and provider. However, we will run a complimentary insurance evaluation to determine if your insurance will cover your treatment and what, if any, out-of-pocket costs you may have. We also accept CareCredit® financing at our Jackson, MS, dental practice to help finance any costs that your insurance may not provide.
