Did You Know? Dental Implants Are the Only Way to Prevent Jaw Atrophy After Tooth Loss

It's true. Stimulation from tooth roots encourages the retention of the jaw tissue, which in turn promotes good oral health and a natural facial appearance.

Without deep stimulation from tooth roots, the jawbone tissue will recede, which can lead to dental shifting, facial distortion, and further tooth loss. Dental implants mimic the tooth roots and eventually fuse with the jaw, providing the jaw with stimulation that no other treatment can offer.

Even if you have been told you are not a candidate for traditional implants due to jaw atrophy, you may still be a candidate for All-on-4 treatment. Once these implants are in place, they will keep you from suffering further bone recession.

State-Of-The-Art Technology Helps Us Deliver Results

We couldn't provide as accurate, efficient, and fast results for our Jackson patients if it weren't for our cutting-edge technology. Combining this technology with our dentists' up-to-date techniques and advanced training, patients can rest assured knowing they're taken care of from start to finish with their All-on-4 dental implant treatment.

  • 3D Cone-Beam Technology

To get a full view of your teeth, tissues, nerve pathways, and bones, we use 3D cone-beam technology to produce a digital image. We use this information to plan and prepare for your surgery. Our doctors can prepare the precise placement of your implants by utilizing these scans.

  • Surgical Guides

Your dentist will map out precisely where your implants should be placed and use this information as a surgical guide to provide an efficient and accurate surgery. Surgical guides allow us to find the best position unique to the makeup of your dental structures.

All-on-4 Candidates

This treatment option is ideal for patients suffering from widespread tooth loss. All-on-4 dentures replace all of the teeth in your upper or lower dental arches. If you are missing a single tooth or only a few teeth, we may recommend a dental implant-supported crown or a traditional dental bridge. A few candidacy factors include:

Being a Non-Smoker

Nicotine can affect your body's ability to heal. This is critical when it comes to the healing process of dental implants. Stop smoking months before surgery to ensure a healthy recovery and successful procedure.

Having Otherwise Good Oral Health

Gum health is vital to setting the stage for healthy and effective implant placement. Our dentists will examine the state of your oral health to ensure you are free of gum disease before your surgery.

Having Good Overall Health

For any surgery, it's important you have good overall health to prevent any problems arising because of it. If you have diabetes or other health conditions, ensure they are managed before undergoing treatment.

Being Committed to Oral Health

Brushing, flossing, and maintaining oral hygiene are expected when you have natural teeth. These practices should be continued with dentures to prevent gum disease and keep your teeth looking brand new.

Having Adequate Bone Tissue

It's true that it's possible to receive All-on-4 treatment even if you have some bone recession. However, you'll still need to have a minimum amount of bone density to ensure the implants can fuse to the jawbone.

Treatment in Action See How All-On-4 Comfortably Stabilizes Dentures

Drs. Roger B. Parkes and R. Clarke Stewart explain how the All-On-4® dental implant system can address widespread tooth loss. Our Jackson, MS, office has helped patients throughout Clinton, Ridgeland, and surrounding areas regain their smiles with this effective treatment.

What to Expect With the All-on-4 Method

At Periodontal Associates of Jackson, we take extraordinary care of our patients. After determining your candidacy for All-On-4 implants, your treatment will follow this general timeline:

Imagine eating all the foods you like and speaking with confidence again.
Imagine eating all the foods you like and speaking with confidence again.

Candidacy Exam

Dr. Parkes or Dr. Stewart will first perform an oral exam and take X-rays to map out where you have the most bone density. Our dentists will then plan your treatment to ensure the most stable implant placement.

Implant Surgery

Next, we will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area so you don't experience any pain during the procedure. The four implants are then placed into your jawbone at strategic angles.

Temporary Dentures

A new set of dentures are used temporarily while the new implants integrate with the bone. This process generally takes three to four months.

Final Placement

When your custom-made denture is ready, you will return to our Jackson, MS, office for placement. After making any necessary adjustments, our dentists will secure your restoration to the implants and abutments.

Recovering  After All-on-4 Implant Surgery

Here is some of the advice your Jackson, MS, dentist will share with you after your surgery, along with personalized instructions based on your needs:

Rest and Heal

Many patients choose to take the first couple of days after implant placement off from work or other commitments. Proper rest is important after any surgical procedure, so you should devote some time to focusing on your recovery. Avoid intense physical activity during this period.

Manage Discomfort

You may experience some swelling and a dull ache around the implant sites for the first few days after surgery. These symptoms will not last long and should be manageable with ice packs and over-the-counter medication.

Eat a Soft Diet

You should stick to a soft-food diet until you are cleared by your doctor. It takes around four to six months for implant posts to fully fuse with the jawbone after surgery, so you should wait until this time to eat especially hard or crunchy foods, like nuts, chips, and apples.

Why Should I Invest in All-on-4 Dental Implants?

While the cost of implants may be intimidating, they can prevent bone atrophy in the jaw, which offers a number of long-term benefits for your oral and overall health.

When the jawbone degenerates, it causes the dental arch to change shape. This impacts the fit of your dentures and results in the need for frequent denture realignment or even brand-new dentures. Jawbone atrophy can also result in changes to the shape of the face that make patients look prematurely aged.

Dentures secured using the All-on-4 technique come with all the benefits of other implant-supported options. This includes better stability, improved chewing ability, and more natural-looking results. For these reasons and more, many Jackson All-on-4 patients decide to invest in treatment.

What Is the Price of All-on-4 Dentures? About $25,000 to $28,000

All-on-4 implant surgery at our Jackson practice can cost $25,000 to $28,000 or more. Your costs will depend on factors like the case itself, any supplementary treatment like periodontal care or tooth extraction, and if you need treatment for one or both arches. Because of the health, functionality, and aesthetic benefits, implant-supported dentures are well worth the price.

A Thankful Patient Attests To Our Implant Placement Skills

"I've been a patient of Dr. Parkes for about 25 years now. He and his staff  are the most thorough,  professional and compassionate group imaginable. Their work is always of the highest quality in the field of periodontics and implants. Plus, they're a lot of fun to be around! Bill Tucker

How Long Do All-on-4 Implants Last?

This is one of the most common questions we get. For the vast majority of patients, All-on-4 implants last a lifetime. Our skilled dentists have decades of experience placing dental implants, so our patients have the best chance of experiencing great results after treatment.

While the implants themselves may last a lifetime, dental restorations do not. The full arch dentures may need to be replaced every decade or so. We use high-quality materials to craft custom restorations, but these materials aren't completely impervious to stains and other signs of wear. By replacing your dentures every decade or so, you can continue to enjoy the aesthetic benefits of treatment.

All-on-4 Implant-Supported Dentures Last

More than 98% of surveyed patients reported that their All-on-4 dentures lasted 10 to 18 years.

FAQs About All-on-4 Treatment

We pride ourselves in giving Jackson patients all the resources they need to make an informed decision. One way we do that? Transparently answering common questions like these.

Can I still get implants if I have gum disease?

Yes, you may still be able to get dental implants when you have gum disease — but you need proper periodontal care first. Luckily, we're periodontists, making us an excellent choice for more complicated cases. We can also offer bone grafting and sinus lifts if you struggle with bone loss, which commonly occurs with gum disease and tooth loss.

Do I still need to go to the dentist after getting dentures?

Yes, absolutely. Going to the dentist for regular cleanings allows you to stay fully on top of your oral health, which includes your gum health. Regular check-ups also help you address any new concerns faster, before they can progress into larger problems.

Will implant placement hurt?

No, it will not. While you might feel some pressure, we will keep you entirely comfortable using local anesthetic. We also feature three kinds of sedation dentistry, including nitrous oxide and IV sedation, to minimize any anxiety.
