6 Benefits of Laser Gum Therapy
vs. Traditional Surgery

Surgery to treat gum disease used to involve cutting away gum tissue with a scalpel, cleaning out bacteria beneath the gum line, and then stitching tissues back together. You won't experience that with laser gum therapy.

Less Pain

Because our doctors use the cutting-edge PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser rather than traditional scalpels, you can expect a more comfortable experience.

Less Invasive

Our laser will instantly seal the incisions made in the treatment area, reducing bleeding and eliminating the need for stitches.

Less Recovery Time

In most cases, our patients can return to their normal routine after just 24 hours.

Less Swelling

Our laser has anti-inflammatory properties, so swelling around the teeth is greatly reduced after treatment.

Less Gum Recession/Bone Loss

LANAP removes less gum tissue than traditional surgery, which reduces gum recession during healing. Also, our laser stimulates bone growth, so your teeth stay rooted in place.

Fewer Future Treatments

According to Dr. Parkes, results from laser gum therapy last years longer than traditional gum surgery methods.

The Laser Gum Therapy Procedure

Depending on your case, the procedure should only take about two hours.
Results from laser gum therapy typically last years longer than traditional gum surgery methods.
Results from laser gum therapy typically last years longer than traditional gum surgery methods.
After a numbing anesthetic is applied to your gums, your doctor will determine how deep your gum pockets are and how much connective tissue has detached from the roots of your teeth.
The laser will destroy bacteria inside your gum pockets, leaving healthy tissue behind so it reconnects to your roots. Hardened tartar that can trap bacteria is also broken up and removed.
The laser is then used to precisely create blood clots that form a protective barrier around your teeth during gum healing.
Next, healthy gum tissue is painlessly compressed to the root surfaces of your teeth so healing can begin. No stitches are involved.
The last step is to adjust your bite so your teeth are comfortable when you chew and speak. This is particularly important if you have bone loss.

Recovery from Laser Gum Therapy

Other than some mild soreness, you should feel fine within 24 hours. Over-the-counter meds can help with discomfort. Your doctor will give you a complete set of post-treatment instructions to follow.
