A man experiencing tooth pain

Wisdom Teeth Removal

When wisdom teeth erupt, they can get stuck in your jaw or grow at an angle. This can lead to painful and serious oral health complications. At our Jackson, MS, office, we offer wisdom teeth removal to prevent impaction and restore your oral health. Learn why Drs. Roger Parkes and R. Clarke Stewart recommend wisdom teeth removal...

Are You in Pain?

If you're experiencing pain from an impacted wisdom tooth, take action right away by requesting a consultation with our dentists.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction is Common You're Not Alone

It's not uncommon to have a wisdom tooth extracted. In fact, it's rarer never to have a wisdom tooth removal.

When is the best time for wisdom tooth removal? Consider Early Extractions

Our oral surgeons prefer to examine patients before their wisdom teeth grow in to assess the likelihood of complications with their development. If we identify potential issues like lack of space, we can schedule your extractions proactively, typically around the age of 16.

If wisdom teeth do become impacted, the sooner you get treatment, the better.

Are You Experiencing Pain? Request a Consultation

Impacted wisdom teeth can push on the adjacent tooth, causing uncomfortable oral pain.

Tackle this pain and prevent your teeth from shifting with a prompt wisdom teeth extraction. Drs. Parkes and Stewart accept all insurance providers, making access to oral surgery widely available. If you're experiencing pain due to an impacted wisdom tooth, it's time to request a consultation at our Jackson office. Call us today:

I’ve ALWAYS been self conscious of my smile, even after clear aligners AND braces because of my “gummy smile” and small teeth, until I recently had the opportunity to undergo a procedure called Crown Lengthening offered by Dr. Roger Parkes (and his amazing assistant Tiffany

Is Wisdom Tooth Removal Painful?

Your health and comfort are important to us, so we take every measure to ensure that you feel safe and relaxed throughout your treatment. While the recovery can be slightly uncomfortable, temporary side effects like swelling and tenderness are generally more tolerable than the pain of wisdom teeth complications. If you have any questions at all about your treatment please contact our Jackson office and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Take a Closer Look At Different Impactions

Illustrated below, you can see various types of impactions that can cause your surrounding teeth to shift out of place.

Your Procedure Timeline

Here is what you can expect during your oral surgery at our Jackson, MS, dental practice...

Anesthesia

Before starting your procedure, we will carefully administer anesthesia and sedation to numb your mouth and induce a state of reduced consciousness.

Extractions

Incisions are made in the gums to access the impacted tooth. We may break the tooth into pieces, or extract the structure whole to reduce the amount of trauma to the surrounding oral tissues.

Close Incisions

Our oral surgeon closes the incisions with dissolvable sutures and places gauze over the area. When the sedation begins to wear off, you will be released to go home and begin your recovery.

Recovery

Expect some mild swelling and bleeding especially in the first two to three days after surgery. We recommend eating a soft food diet and using an ice pack to manage side effects. Most patients will be completely recovered in about two weeks.
