What Are Implant-Supported Bridges?
An implant-supported bridge consists of one or more false teeth held in place by dental implants. This bridge is designed to look and function like your natural teeth following tooth loss.
An implant-supported bridge is a great solution for people missing two to four consecutive teeth. If you are missing most or all of your teeth, a denture may be a better option. You're a good candidate for an implant-supported bridge if you're in good overall health, have otherwise good dental health, have healthy gums, and don't use nicotine products that could slow down the healing process after dental implants.

Traditional versus Implant-Supported Bridges
While both of these solutions are effective ways to replace missing teeth, traditional bridges cannot stop the bone atrophy that follows tooth loss. Although you can expect a traditional bridge to restore function and maintain dental alignment for many years, you may eventually need a bone graft beneath the bridge.
Additionally, traditional bridges require your dentist to crown the two teeth on either side of the gap, heavily altering these healthy, natural teeth.
An implant-supported bridge can provide the stimulation necessary to maintain jaw tissue and avoid the need for a bone graft in the future. And since implant bridges rely on implants for support, there is no need to crown healthy teeth.

Before you can receive your dental bridge, you will first need a surgical procedure to place the dental implants. We can do the entire dental implant procedure in our dentistry office in Jackson, MS, without having to refer you elsewhere. Our practice has been providing patients in the greater Jackson area, including Clinton and Ridgeland, with specialized services such as implants for over 30 years.

Aftercare
Following your implant placement, we recommend eating soft foods for the first few days. Try not to chew around the implant site to minimize pain, and avoid disturbing the healing process. Additionally, try to avoid:
- Chewing hard objects
- Drinking hot beverages
- Consuming alcohol
Once your dental bridge is in place, you can treat it how you treat your other teeth. Brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, using mouthwash, and scheduling regular exams with your dentist can go a long way in preserving your implants and ensuring your mouth can support them.
With proper care, your dental implants can last a lifetime, and the bridge can last 15 years or longer.

Implant-supported bridges most commonly replace two to four teeth in a row. If you are missing a single tooth, we can replace it with a single dental implant and a custom crown. If you are missing all of your teeth on one or both dental arches, we can provide an implant-supported denture, which provides more stability and function than a traditional denture.
During your appointment, we can assess your needs and determine if an implant-supported bridge, denture, or other procedure is the best way to replace your missing teeth.
