Cosmetic Gum Contouring

A disproportionate or heavy gumline can distract from your teeth and negatively impact the overall appearance of your smile. Drs. Roger B. Parkes and R. Clarke Stewart can help you enjoy a more harmonious, symmetrical-looking smile with cosmetic gum contouringWhy do we recommend gum contouring for our patients in the greater Jackson, MS, region?

Creating a Confident Smile

When you imagine a perfect smile, the gums are typically not a feature that stands out. However, an imperfect gumline can garner too much attention, taking away from the overall beauty of your smile. We recommend gum contouring for several reasons.

Fix a Gummy Smile

Laser contouring removes excess gum tissue and exposes more of the tooth structure. When you establish a proper balance of gum tissue relative to the teeth, your smile tends to look healthier and more proportional.

Make Teeth Look Straighter

Even if you have straight teeth, an uneven gum line can create the illusion of crookedness. Laser contouring levels out a gumline that slopes down at an angle, enhancing the appearance of symmetry.

Improve Your Confidence

Don't underestimate the impact cosmetic dentistry can have on your attitude and quality of life. Dental enhancement combined with laser contouring can perfect the aesthetics of your smile, improving your confidence and the way you present yourself.

Candidates for Laser Gum Contouring

Many of our patients throughout Jackson, Clinton, and Ridgeland, MS, qualify for gum contouring. During your consultation at our Jackson practice, Dr. Parkes or Dr. Stewart will evaluate your teeth and gums to ensure you are a good candidate. It is important that gum disease and tooth decay are treated before cosmetic enhancement to give you a healthy foundation and long-lasting results.

Anesthetic

Before we begin the procedure, your cosmetic dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. Most patients report minimal discomfort during and after the procedure.

Sculpting

When you are comfortable, we will begin to target unwanted gum tissue with our dental laser. Excess tissue is carefully removed, making the gumline straight and proportional.

Recovery

Once the procedure is complete, we will send you home with specific post-op instructions to ensure a safe and speedy recovery. Make sure to eat soft foods for a few days and contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.

Comprehensive Smile Enhancement

While gum contouring can be performed as a standalone treatment, many people choose to undergo the procedure as part of a smile makeover. A smile makeover allows you to combine several forms of cosmetic dentistry into a single streamlined treatment plan. The goal is to address all your areas of insecurity and produce the exact results you desire.

Since laser gum contouring can help make your teeth the focal point of your smile, you may also want to consider dental enhancement  Many of our patients choose to get teeth whitening or porcelain veneers at the same time to achieve more dramatic and stunning results.

I am so thankful to Dr. Roger Parks for making me smile. I have always disliked my gummy smile and his expertise was amazing. I didn’t know I could do anything about it until I came to Periodontics of Jackson. His staff is great and so was my experience!
