What is LANAP?

LANAP (Laser-assisted new attachment procedure) is a treatment that uses lasers in order to combat periodontitis. This type of therapy focuses on regeneration of gum tissue rather than removal of gum tissue. This procedure at Periodontal Associates of Jackson has six steps which are outlined below:

 

1) Assess your gum pockets' depth: 

 

The depth of your gum pockets will be examined by using a probe. This will also check to see how much of your connective tissue has become disconnected from your roots.

 

2) Kill the bacteria in your gum pockets:

 

Next, the bacteria in your gum pockets will be targeted and killed. We will use tiny pulses of laser energy in order to kill the bacteria and leave your healthy tissue behind. After the bacteria has been eliminated, your tissue has the ability to reconnect to your roots.

 

3) Remove the tartar from your teeth and mouth:

 

After bacteria is eliminated, we will break up the tartar in your mouth and remove it using a scaler.

 

4) Create clots in your mouth:

 

Clots are created next in the LANAP process. This clot will protect your teeth and allow the gums to heal properly. 

 

5) Compress your gums:

 

Next, your healthy tissue will be compressed to the roots of your teeth. This will begin a natural healing process and eliminate the need of stitches.

 

6) Bite Correction:

 

After the process has been completed your vote will be corrected. This bite correction will help your bite and mouth feel comfortable.
